The new AT2020 USB offers studio-quality articulation and intelligibility. Baritone Horns, Euphoniums, and Alto Horns.Speakers - Speakers & Tweeters Component.Purchasing GuideThe Audio Technica AT2020 has an MSRP of $99. The improvement in quality the AT2020 affords is only really going to be appreciated by audiophiles and podcasters, but for streaming your voice is usually compressed anyway, so the improved quality delivered by this microphone might not even be noticeable really. The Blue Yeti only needs to be plugged into a USB port, and does a fine job for streaming and podcasting. Fixing bad sound quality, like the kind you'd get with an onboard mic or built-in, makes more of an impact than improving already acceptable sound quality. The problem is, all that extra effort isn't really worth it if you're just planning on streaming games on Twitch or YouTube. The AT2020 will give you great sounding recordings, with the flexibility of adjustment that comes with using an analog mixer, but you also need to understand the functions of a whole other piece of recording equipment.įor the $99 base price, you could buy a small mixing board and cables and still come in at around the same cost as the Razer Seiren Elite. A USB mic sounds excellent for almost all non-professional applications, without all the extra setup and equipment. It's exactly what you would expect from a studio-grade microphone. Compared to a USB mic, the sound is warmer and more precise.

Sound quality from the AT2020 is excellent. Whether this is a benefit or a drawback is up to you really. The AT2020 though is just a standard, front-facing microphone. The Blue Yeti, too, has a little flair, and is available in a few different color choices. The Razer Seiren takes its aesthetics to a level you'd expect from Razer, with some chrome accents a light-up logo, and an LCD. More equipment, more money, more things to break or trip over.Aesthetically, the AT2020 looks like. It's just more money to dump into start-up costs when most USB solutions have a stand included. But beginner streamers and podcasters won't see much benefit from a dedicated stand. Serious audiophiles will recognize the benefits a mic stand offers over something like a desktop stand, like reducing vibration for example. You can pick up a mic stand on the cheap, but there's the problem of finding a place to set it up, room to store it, and other logistical issues that might pop up. Out of the box you just have to hold it, so it's not for someone who wants to take it out of the box and start a Twitch channel immediately. There's also the problem of lacking a mic stand. It's much more complicated than a USB mic, in case that wasn't clear. You'll need a mixing board at the very least, or a dedicated voice recorded that accepts XLR input. If that sounds intimidating, this is not the mic for you. The AT2020 uses an XLR cable and requires 48v of phantom power.

If you aren't familiar with the world of professional audio equipment, it's easy to find yourself in possession of the wrong cables, or an incompatible mixer. It also requires extra equipment to operate, which is where a few headaches arise. That's a problem if you're looking to dive right into streaming and podcasting, but also part of the reason why this microphone is so affordable. There aren't any cables, a stand, or anything extra aside from the bare essentials. It comes with a small leather carrying pouch, similar to a pencil case, a microphone stand adapter, and that's it. There actually isn't much included with the AT2020. It requires an XLR cable, which isn't included with the unit. It's mostly for people who want to crystal clear audio for voiceover and podcasting and aren't afraid of a little tinkering.įirst off, this isn't a USB microphone. The price and quality are great, but casual hobbyists should be aware that there are more steps required to getting audio into your computer than a simple plug-and-play mic. The AT2020 microphone by Audio Technica is an excellent, professional quality condenser microphone with a single cardioid pattern and a great price (See it on Amazon) / (See it on Amazon UK).
